2012 Brass Monkey cancelled
Due to a lot of locals on their way to the Worlds in Europe and some other commitments, it seemed very unlikely to get a decent sized fleet on the water.For that reason the organizers feel very sorry to cancel the event for 2012.

Both proposals - see below - were approved at the Special General Meeting of NZOKDA held earlier this week.
Any South Island resident who enters and competes in the 2012 OK Dinghy New Zealand National and Interdominion Championship will receive the following from NZOKDA:
- Entry Fee of $150 paid by NZOKDA
- One year free membership of NZOKDA (value $50)
- NZOKDA to assist that person to the extent possible with arranging an OK Dinghy yacht for use in the championship
- Travel Subsidy of $200
2012 SGM
The NZOKDA Council has determined that a Special General Meeting of NZOKDA is necessary, in terms of Rules 12.4 and 13 of our Constitution.
The purpose of the SGM is to consider whether we should approve the following proposals:
That any South Island resident who enters and competes in the 2012 OK Dinghy New Zealand National and Interdominion Championship will receive the following from NZOKDA:
- Entry Fee of $150 paid by NZOKDA
- One year free membership of NZOKDA (value $50)
- NZOKDA to assist that person to the extent possible with arranging an OK Dinghy yacht for use in the championship

That the NZOKDA members approve and ratify the recent decision of the NZOKDA Council to change the venue, and postpone the dates, of the 2012 New Zealand OK Dinghy National Championships, so that they will now be held at Wakatere Boating Club from 6-9 April 2012 in conjunction with the 2012 OK Dinghy Interdominion Championship.”
The Special General Meeting shall be held electronically between 9.00am on Monday 12 March and 5.00pm on Tuesday 13 March.

You can vote only once. You can vote in advance of, or during, the meeting time and we will count the last vote that we receive from you before the close of the meeting.

2012 National Championship
The NZOKDA officers have resolved overnight to make an executive decision which as follows:- The 2012 OK Dinghy Nationals have now been postponed until Easter, and will be held concurrently with the Interdominions at Wakatere Boating Club.
- The NZOKDA AGM will be held during the Interdominions.
- The Interdominions/Nationals will therefore count as a NZOK Tour event and the NZOK Tour Champion will be decided at the Interdominions.
The Notice of race for the Interdominion and (now also) National Championship in Wakatere has been amended.

NZOKDA wishes to make an announcement concerning measurement of boats and gear for this seasons' upcoming ranking and Worlds team selection series. For the purposes of NZ rankings and Worlds team selection, the following will apply to all regattas forming part of the series:- Each boat must have a valid measurement certificate which must be presented on registration for each contest (NZOKDA will not issue new certificates at contests - these must be organised and obtained prior).
- Every entrant in each contest must be a current, fully paid up member of NZOKDA. Anyone who has not already paid their 2009 fee of $50 should contact NZOKDA Treasurer Mark Perrow to arrange payment. Note that you will need to also pay your 2010 fee prior to the 2010 Nationals/Pre-worlds in order to be eligible to compete in that contest or in the 2010 Worlds.
- Every sail used in each contest must have been measured and signed by an official measurer prior to the start of the contest.
- There will be random checking of weights and correctors of hulls and masts throughout each contest at the discretion of NZOKDA and/or the race committee.
- All gear must be measured and legal prior to each contest (initial measurement of gear will not be provided at contests unless arranged privately between individuals and official measurers).
- If the above provisos are not complied with by any sailor in relation to any contest, then that sailor will receive no ranking points for that contest and will not be entitled to count that contest towards team selection, without exception.

Kiwi OK Sailor wins Gold at Kiel Week
Kiwi Greg Wilcox has won the Gold medal and takes out the International Classes section of Kieler Woche, sailing in the OK Class. Greg joins an elite group of talented Kiwi sailors who have achieved this feat including Dan Salter and Rick Dodson.
Conditions suited Wilcox in the second week of Kiel, with a mix bag with one windy day, similar to Greg's home Wellington, where he learned his experince in the rougher water.
As in most big regatta there was a bit of controversy, where in one race most of the fleet sailed the wrong way around a replacement mark. Greg being well versed with the rules soon put the matter right in the appropriate method.
The OK Class is the most successful International class in New Zealand with 10 World Champions and the current World Champion being Wellington's Karl Purdie.
New Zealand hope to build on this success when they host the 2010 OK World Championships sailed out of RPNYC in Wellington, February 4 to 12th.
Wellington City Council has generously partnered the OK Class in bidding for the Worlds and hosting the regatta in the most beautiful natural harbour, right next to Te Papa and Chaffers Marina.
Preparations are well under way with Eye Talent Management a sports management company securing official sponsors 'Jeff Gray BMW' and 'Bartercard'.
Waitangi weekend will be abuzz with Waitangi celebrations, Rugby 7s and OK World Championships all creating an exciting theatre for the Wellington public to enjoy.

Further to the AGM of NZOKDA in February, the selection process for the 2010 NZ team for the OK Worlds in Wellington will be as follows:
- Of the places officially allocated to New Zealand, the first 50% will be decided on the basis of the 2010 Nationals results. So, for example, if there are 20 official places for NZ, then the top 10 New Zealanders in the 2010 nationals will be the first selections for the team.

The remaining 50% of the team will be chosen from the highest ranked
New Zealanders on the NZ Ranking List (not including those already
selected on the basis of the nationals) as follows:
- The Ranking List will be calculated in the normal manner (i.e. last place gets 1 point, second from last gets 2 points etc, plus everyone gets 10 for turning up).
- The results for the Nationals will, as per usual, count double in the normal way (i.e. last gets 2, second from last gets 4 etc, plus 10 for turning up)
- Overseas competitors who have not competed in any other ranking regattas will be discounted from the overall Nationals results only (i.e. we don't recalculate the overall results based on kiwi-only race results). However, any overseas competitors who are already part of the Ranking List prior to the nationals will retain their nationals points for the purpose of continuity in the Ranking List.
- The results of those New Zealanders already selected on the basis of their Nationals performance will still be included in the calculation of Ranking List results for the purposes of selecting the remainder of the team.
- If NZ is awarded any further Worlds places, beyond our official allocation, those will be allocated on the basis of the Ranking List in the same manner and obviously depending on who is present and available to sail. Any sailors awarded those extra spots will be open entries in the Worlds and not part of the official team.
- We will hold 5 ranking regattas, including the nationals, prior to the Worlds.
- For the purposes of team selection, your best 4 regattas will count.

The ranking regattas, at this stage, are scheduled as follows:
- Wellington - 3/4 October
- Takapuna - 24-26 October (Labour Weekend)
- Turangi - 21/22 Nov
- Napier - 5/6 Dec (this may change)
- Nationals (Wellington) - Pre-Worlds
The goal is for NZ to dominate the 2010 Worlds, and we are on track to do that. We urge everyone to sail hard over the winter, and will look forward to seeing you on the water in Wellington for the opening regatta in October.
